In an editorial for the National Review Online national columnist Mona Charen asks the question:

What Good Can Come of Israel's current military efforts in Gaza? Charen points out that Israel is limited in their ability to fight a winnable war with Hamas because they fight with a Western morality: one that values civilians and innocent lives which causes them to engage their enemy, not innocent men, women and children. This puts Israel at distinct disadvantage with an enemy who is willing to launch massive rocket attacks directly on civilian populations. Mona Charen notes Israel "cannot adopt the sort of scorched earth practices that, say, Russia applied in Chechnya. And, as others have noted, because Israel has no desire and probably no stomach for reoccupying Gaza and imposing order, she is reduced to fighting small-scale wars simply to keep Hamas off balance."
Those who understand the Islamofacist mind and read their rhetoric realize the battle that Hamas, Hezbollah, the PLO, Al-Qaeda and other Muslims extremists are waging is one to the death. There are no rules of engagement. The two state solution sought by so many is not an end but a means along the way to their ultimate goal: all Jews annihilated . Israel must cease to exist and Jews must vanish from the Middle East. Don't believe me? Then believe the leaders of these Islamic nations and terrorist organizations:

This deep seated hatred for the Jewish people will not end until the blood thirst and conquest is satisfied.
The President of Iran has the brazenness to declare the holocaust of the Jews in the second world war as a myth created by the Jewish people. Facts do not seem to matter when it comes to addressing Israel or its people.
The Palestinians begin training their children to hate the Jews and prepare for martyrdom right out of the cradle. Children's programming hosted by innocent looking characters teach children songs of hatred along with spelling.
Hezbollah markets a video game called "Special Force 2" that allows young Muslims to raid Israel, capture their troops and launch Katusha rockets at Israeli towns and cause carnage of the Jewish people. How do you begin to negotiate peace with people who go to these lengths to teach death and destruction?
The cost of staying in Gaza will be too high for Israel. So crippling Hamas and moving out is the best option in a bad situation. Unfortunately, just like their withdrawal from Southern Lebanon after breaking Hezbollah, it will be interpreted as weakness and defeat by Islamic terrorists - a divine victory over the infidels.
Every step Israel takes in the coming days must be decided with the interest of survival and security of their people. Anything short of that will be seen as one step closer to the wicked dream of the extremists to wipe them from the face of the earth. |
