Hundreds of Tons of Supplies Transferred Into the Gaza Strip

On Monday (Jan. 5), the Kerem Shalom Crossing was opened for the transfer of humanitarian aid for the first time since the beginning of the ground operations in the Gaza Strip. 40 trucks with 1119 tons of supplies entered the Gaza Strip. The supplies included basic foods, such as flour, in addition to medication and other donations from the World Food Program (WFP), UNRWA, the Red Cross, and the governments of Egypt and Jordan. In addition to the donations from the Red Cross, a team of doctors and nurses came from Geneva, Switzerland in order to help with the treatment of injured Palestinians.

Supplies for GazaThe fuel depot at Nahal Oz operated today for the first time since the beginning of Operation Cast Lead. 215,000 liters of industrial diesel fuel were transferred to the Gaza power station, which will allow it to open and operate for the next ten days. 93,000 liters of diesel fuel are being transferred to the local branches of the UNRWA and the United Nations for transport. In addition, 45 thousand liters of petrol were transferred to the Gaza Strip for domestic use by the civilians in the Gaza Strip.

About 200 Palestinian foreign nationals are soon expected to leave the Gaza Strip for Jordan, following the requests of the countries’ embassies. Palestinians with additional Norwegian, German, Filipino, Polish, Rumanian, Maltese, French, Greek, Austrian and Canadian citizenship are expected to cross through the Allenby Bridge checkpoint escorted by officers of the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories.
