As part of the framework designed to restart peace talks with the Palestinians, the Israeli government released another group of 26 Palestinian prisoners. These are convicted terrorists, many of them murderers. Most have been in prison for a number of years after their conviction for their role in the death of Israeli men, women and children. This brings to 78 the number released so far, with another 26 yet to be determined.
The move came as Secretary of State John Kerry returned to Israel for yet another round of talks. This latest prisoner release sparked another set of protests in Israel, led by the families of the victims of these terrorists. Israeli cabinet member Yaachov Peri, former head of the Shin Bet security service said, “It is hard, it is tragic, it is painful and it raises questions that I myself do not even know how to answer.”
Despite the intense efforts and pressure of the United States, a peace agreement still appears very elusive. The Palestinians have shown no particular interest in reaching a deal, and given the fact that they are receiving millions of dollars in concessions and direct aid from both Israel and the US as an inducement to continue talking, there is no reason to think they want a deal anytime soon. And even if a deal were reached, it is by no means certain that there is any meaningful Palestinian government that would be able to enforce it.
The Jewish People today often feel isolated and abandoned by the rest of the world, and it is not hard to see why. The tiny nation of Israel is surrounded by enemies and the recent flood of terrorist attacks is just one more reminder of the bitter hatred that they face day after day—simply because of their nationality and religion.
In the face of this tide of anti-Semitism, it is more important than ever that we extend hands of love and friendship to the Jewish People in the name of Yeshua. Every single day Jewish Voice, in partnership with a number of ministries in Israel, is doing exactly that. Your contribution today allows us to continue this vital outreach bringing help and encouragement and - most of all - the Good News of Yeshua to the Jewish People. Thank you so much for your faithfulness and generosity in support of this great work. God bless you today and throughout this New Year.
