We all have a comfort zone. When it comes to interacting with people, I think I’ve been practicing physical distancing my entire life. I prefer a few feet of separation. We are living in a time where six feet separation is the standard. Good thing our love for God is not measured by how close we get to each other but rather on how we communicate with one another. A famous quote from Francis of Assisi says, “Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.” Whether spoken, texted or posted on social media, right now, words are very necessary. In a time when so many are feeling isolated, we can be the Lord’s voice of shalom and hope. In chapter four of Ephesians, verses 20-29, Paul writes about how after we receive the truth that is in Yeshua we are to put off our old self and be renewed in the spirit of our mind. Speak the truth, reconcile with one another quickly, give and not take, share what we have, and build others up according to their need.
I’ve taken on the task of going through the contact list on my phone and sending a word of encouragement to people I haven’t seen or spoken to in some time. To let them know they are not forgotten and that God hasn’t changed His mind regarding them. It’s been amazing to see the responses from so many who are just happy that someone was thinking about them. Who can you touch today with a quick note?
- Has your mind been renewed by the Holy Spirit? Without words, does your life reflect the fact you are a new creation in Messiah?
- If not, read chapter four of Ephesians and ask the Holy Spirit to renew your mind today.
