Happy birthday Israel!
It was just 70 years ago – on May 14, 1948 – that the modern Jewish State of Israel was officially founded.
I wasn’t even born yet! But like so many Jewish people the world over, much of the Jewish identity I treasure so deeply is tied to the restored Land of Israel.
And next month, Israel will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its restoration.
But the celebration must be tempered by the realization that Israel’s founding seven decades ago was only the start of a long struggle to survive and preserve the Jewish homeland.
History books remind us that the very next day, the Arab armies of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon invaded the new nation. Even though the Arab forces were larger and better equipped, the tiny Israeli army was well organized, disciplined and trained. Before the end of the year, Israel had won a stunning victory.
From that difficult beginning, and against all odds, the Jewish people living in Israel have gone on to defeat many enemies and overcome many challenges.
Every day, they face threats of destruction by the Arab and Palestinian forces that surround them, internal friction between secular and ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities, and the difficulty of assimilating Jewish immigrants from various countries and cultures.
Israel’s unlikely continued existence is itself evidence of God’s blessing on the Jewish nation.
But perhaps most troubling for the Jewish people and for Israel has been the global rise in hateful anti-Semitism. It sometimes seems there’s nowhere the Jewish people can turn with confidence that they will be supported.
During the 50 years since our inception, Jewish Voice Ministries has made one of its primary goals to support the Land and people of Israel. We do this because we believe the reestablishment of Israel is a clear sign God is fulfilling His prophetic promises – promises that eventually will lead to the return of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah to Zion.
In the meantime, the people of Israel have many needs that Jewish Voice Ministries – and you – can meet.
Working both directly and through partner agencies, Jewish Voice is providing Holocaust survivors in Israel (one in four lives in poverty) with urgently needed food and medicines as well as dental and vision care. These are significant needs that, because of their high cost in Israel,
often go unmet.
When you partner with us to reach out to a survivor with
compassion and in Jesus’ name, you’ll provide meaningful help,
so that they experience better health in their final years
- An eye exam and basic care
- A pair of eyeglasses
- Dental implants
- A set of dentures
In addition to this special concern for struggling Holocaust survivors, Jewish Voice supporters also help other Israelis in need – the poor, the elderly, widows, orphans and single mothers.
In just the past year, Jewish Voice has opened a new office in Israel. We’ll use our already growing presence there to expand our ministry efforts, reaching out to even more people in need in the coming weeks and months.
Working with trusted Messianic Jewish ministry partners in Israel, we’re developing a larger outreach to provide food, housing assistance, spiritual discipleship, Messianic leadership training, support for Messianic congregations and immigrant communities, drug addiction recovery, and much more.
These aid efforts are very important. But they also open the door for us to share the Good News of faith in Yeshua – Jesus the Messiah.
Still, as important as these efforts are, none of this can happen without help from you and other partners.
