More potential threats against Israel as violent conflict in Syria continues
As the U.S. military withdraws from Syria, the balance of power in this already tumultuous region of the world is essentially up for grabs.
What’s even more devastating, the vacuum created by the departure of American troops will potentially be filled by powers that don’t share Israel’s interests. Or rather, who seek to completely annihilate her and her people.
You have certainly seen the headlines. Last week, on the heels of the U.S. military departure, Turkey launched a broad assault on Kurdish-controlled areas in northeastern Syria. Fighter jets and artillery targeted Kurdish positions along the full width of the northern Syrian border, sending thousands of civilians fleeing their homes.
Alliance shift spells potential for greater threat to Israel
Syrian Kurds – a key U.S. ally against ISIS – have been dealt a devasting blow. And as a result, earlier this week, Syrian Kurds announced a deal with President Bashar Assad’s government to help fend off Turkey’s invasion.
As early as Monday morning, Syrian government troops moved into a series of towns and villages in northern Syria, setting up blockades to clash with Turkish-led forces in the area.
This is a major shift in alliances within the region. Especially when you consider the chief backers of the Assad regime are Russia and Iran.
For months we’ve seen Iran make claims and take action that speaks only to their resolve to destroy Israel.
In my email last week, we shared the words Deputy Commander for Operations of Iranian Revolution Guards, Abbas Nilforoushan, said with regards to the conflict between Iran and Israel:
“Iran has encircled Israel from all four sides. Israel is not in a position to threaten Iran. If Israel makes a strategic mistake, it has to collect bits and pieces of Tel Aviv from the lower depths of the Mediterranean Sea. Nothing will be left of Israel.”
“Iran threatens to wipe us off the map …”
And now with the security in northern Syria in chaos, it’s possible both Iran (backed by Russia) in proxy to Assad will tighten its grip on the region.
Prime Minister Netanyahu responded to the situation last week, saying:
“Iran threatens to wipe us off the map … Time and again, [the regime] tries to attack us, so we must stand ready to protect ourselves from the danger. Israel will protect itself, on its own, against any threat.”
Join us in prayer
As we watch the conflict in northern Syria unfold, which has the potential to extend, and even cause greater security risk in Israel, we ask that you join us in prayer.
Please pray for God to:
- Protect innocent life from the violence of war – men, women and families caught in the crossfire in northern Syria
- Provide aid for Syrian refugees and those who’ve been forced to flee from their homes and run for their lives because of the outbreak of violence
- Give wisdom and discernment to world leaders to know how to respond to such a violent act of war
- Instill peace and protection to Israel and her people during this time of uncertainty
- Move in the hearts and minds of world leaders, and the Jewish people, to help them see to the truthfulness of Jesus’ Messiahship – the Prince of Peace
As a Believer in Yeshua (Jesus), I hope you’ll go beyond prayer and put your support into action by giving a generous gift to stand with the Jewish people – in Israel and around the world.
