At a rare public briefing yesterday, IDF Military Intelligence Director Major General Aviv Kochavi revealed that there are 170,000 rockets and missiles aimed at Israel. These are controlled by terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, as well as unfriendly governments like Syria and Iran. Kochavi said, “For the first time in many decades, the enemy has the ability to drop considerable amounts of munitions on the cities of Israel.”
Kochavi said that this conventional threat is a greater immediate danger than Iran's nuclear weapons program. He also highlighted the growing trend of cyber warfare. Israeli businesses and government facilities were attacked hundreds of times over the past year by cyber terrorists. This threat he said was “growing exponentially” and he noted that the IDF was devoting more and more resources to this new and increasing 
threat. In the future, the ability to defend against attacks aimed at crippling infrastructure—electricity, water and gas—may be even more important than the ability to stop a military strike.
