Messianic Jews Celebrating Chanukah 2015 – 1st Night

December 06, 2015

God has made His wonders to be remembered (Psalm 111:4)! At Chanukah we remember a great miracle that God performed at a very pivotal time in the history of Israel. One day’s supply of oil for the newly re-dedicated Temple miraculously lasted eight days until more purified oil could be made.

For Messianic Jews, the meaning of Chanukah has several layers. In light of knowing Yeshua (Jesus) as God’s Son and the promised Messiah, we know about miracles. Yeshua Himself is a miracle and He performed many wonders while He was on the earth.

Each night of Chanukah, as the candles are lit, Jewish People around the world are reciting the blessings below. We’ve added some verses from the Tanakh (Old Testament) and the Brit Hadashah (New Testament) that bring together a celebration of Chanukah with the life we have found in the Light of the World, Yeshua.

On this first night, a candle is placed in the farthest right holder and lit using the Servant Candle.

Chanukah Blessings

Blessed are You, LORD, our God, sovereign of the universe, Who has sanctified us through Yeshua the Messiah.

Blessed are You, LORD, our God, sovereign of the universe, Who has performed miracles for our ancestors in those days at this time.

Blessed are You, LORD, our God, sovereign of the universe, Who has kept us alive, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this season.

The Miracle of Yeshua, God with Us

“Therefore, Adonai Himself will give you a sign… Behold, the virgin shall conceive and give birth to a son. And they shall call His name Immanuel, which means God with us” (Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:23 TLV).

Yeshua, You Yourself are a miracle! You came to us in a miraculous way to be God with us. In Your earthly life You touched the blind and gave them sight. You made the lame walk, and the deaf hear. You reached out and touched the leper, and changed him from unclean to clean. Yeshua, Your touch has changed us. By Your sacrificial death for us, You have changed us from “unclean” to “clean” before the Father. When once we were far off and separated from Him, You have made the way for us to have fellowship with God.

The Miracle of New Life in Yeshua

“Therefore, if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away, behold all things have become new “(2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV).

Yeshua, You have made us new! You have made the way for us to have new life, abundant and eternal life. You love us and free us! You have plans for us. You, in Your grace and power, want to use us as instruments in accomplishing the work of Your kingdom. You equip us with new life for Your work and for our joy!

Thank you, Father for Your miracles. In Yeshua’s name we pray.
