Praying in the New Year of 5777

September 28, 2016

Every year on the first Sunday in October, hundreds of millions of people from well over 100 nations around the world follow the mandate of Psalm 122:3 to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. This day, which falls on October 2 this year, began 14 years ago with key political and religious leaders meeting together. Across the nations, it has become a huge movement of prayer for the peace of Jerusalem.

Please join us in this New Year of 5777 by praying for:

  • This initiative to continue to grow: The goal of its leaders and well-known supporters, including Jack Hayford and Robert Stearns among many others, is to have 175 nations and 500 million Believers participating in prayer this year
  • Pastors to draw their congregations’ attention to this scriptural call to prayer and away from the current growing mindset of anti-Semitism as well as away from replacement theology which has been gaining a fresh foothold in the Church
  • Believers to call on the Lord in concerted, unified prayer not only for Jerusalem but for the nation of Israel and for the Jewish people throughout the world
  • All of us as Jewish Voice Ministries’ team members and partners to remember to follow the encouragement of Psalm 122:3 and pray every day – as  Jonathan Bernis exhorts us at the end of each “Jewish Voice with Jonathan Bernis” television program – for the peace of Jerusalem

The evening of “The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem” falls on another significant occasion this year – Erev Rosh Hashanah, or the Eve of the Head of the Jewish New Year. Rabbis of the past designated Rosh Hashanah as the start of the year because they believed it was the day God created the world.  This New Year will be 5777, which is already being called “The Year of the Sword” in some circles. May it be a year when we as Believers take up the Sword of the Spirit with fresh dedication and a new authority!

  • Pray that Israel and Jewish people will be protected from any harm during this season of the Fall Feasts, or High Holy days (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot or the Feast of Tabernacles)
  • As the shofars sound around the world on Rosh Hashanah, pray for Jewish people to be awakened by the Holy Spirit and feel the need to prepare for an encounter with God
  • Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to them, and that they will see Yeshua as Savior and the Messiah
  • Pray for Believers also to awaken to partner with the Lord in helping bring many into the Kingdom while there is still time

Lord, what better way to move from 5776 to 5777 than praying for the Peace of Jerusalem and the awakening of the Jewish people around the world to a personal knowledge of Yeshua! Help us discern the signs of the times and be diligent to not fear, but pray! In Yeshua’s name, AMEN.
