U.S. State Department Endorsing Anti-Semitism?

May 08, 2014

Last week, the U.S. State Department served as a “cultural partner” with something called the “Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.” The event ran from April 30 through May 5.

It was well known to the State Department that the Book Fair would have many anti-Semitic books on display in both English and Arabic, but it proceeded to sponsor the event anyway.

Among titles being promoted and sold at the event were The International JewMein Kampf, and The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion. All three of these books are frequently cited as having fueled anti-Semitism in 20th Century Europe MEU May 2014 Week 1 email picand paved the way for The Holocaust.

As it happens, currently all of these viciously anti-Semitic books are wildly popular in the Middle East. In fact, The Protocols is now reported to be the second most widely published book in the Arab world. It is a notorious fabrication originating in Russia in the early 1900s. The book promotes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories featuring Jews planning global domination.

It is profoundly troubling that the diplomatic arm of the U.S. government would lend an air of legitimacy to an event at which such books are being promoted. But it is a sign of the times in which we’re living.

That’s why your ongoing support is so important and so appreciated. A key part of our mission here at Jewish Voice is combating anti-Semitic misinformation while encouraging support for Israel and the Jewish People.
